Why do Ice Skaters and Figure Skaters Need Head Protection?

In ice skating and figure skating, a significant head-impact risk comes from falls onto the ice. Falls can occur while learning basic skating skills, practising jumps and spins, landing technical elements, or simply losing balance or an edge. They are not limited to beginners: even experienced figure skaters can fall unexpectedly during training or competition.
