From Sport to Everyday Head Protection: Why We Created NeuroSure

Rezon began with a clear mission: to give every player the option to protect their brain in sport.

Sport has a visible and urgent brain protection problem. Across many sports, players are exposed not only to obvious concussions, but also to repeated small-force, sub-concussive impacts, which damage the brain over time. We believe players, parents, coaches and clubs deserve better options: protection designed around the brain, not just the surface of the head.

That mission has shaped the design of Rezon Halos®, and today, there are more than 5,000 Rezon Halos® wearers, across 19 sports and 34 countries.

But as Rezon has grown, something unexpected but important happened.

Families, carers and clinicians began asking whether the same brain protection principles could help beyond sport. They were looking for practical, discreet medical head protection for adults and children living with epilepsy, autism, hydrocephalus, macrocephaly, elderly fall risk, neurological conditions and everyday head impact risk.

We listened. That is why we have created NeuroSure.

Rezon began with brain protection in sport

Rezon was created because sport has a brain injury problem.

Not only in the obvious moments when someone suffers a concussion, but in the repeated small-force sub-concussive impacts that damage the brain over time.

From the beginning, our work has focused on how to reduce the rotational and linear forces transmitted to the brain during head impacts. That matters because modern brain injury biomechanics recognises the increased importance of reducing rotational forces in concussive and sub-concussive head impacts.

But we also knew something else. Protection only works if people will actually wear it.

That has shaped Rezon from the start. We did not want to create something that only made sense in a laboratory or on a product sheet. We wanted brain protection that could work in real sporting environments, where movement, comfort, sweat, confidence and habit all matter.

The fact that Rezon is now worn by more than 5,000 people across 19 sports and 34 countries means a great deal to us. It shows that athletes, parents, coaches, clubs and organisations are taking brain protection seriously and understanding the science about the mechanics of brain injury and the physicality of the brain.

It also shows that there is a real appetite for something better than the old assumption that head protection is only about padding.

Then customers began asking a different question

As Rezon grew, we started hearing from people outside sport.

They were parents. Carers. Families. Clinicians. Some were supporting children. Some were supporting adults. They contacted us about epilepsy, autism, hydrocephalus, macrocephaly, neurological conditions, elderly care, falls, rehabilitation and everyday head-impact risk.

Their question was simple: Could the same brain protection principles help beyond sport?

At first, these enquiries came one by one. Then conversations increased, and we began to hear an increasing number of personal stories about head injury risk in everyday life. These people were not asking us for a sports product. They were asking for head worn protection that could fit into daily life. They wanted something practical. Something discreet. Something CE/UKCA PPE certified. Something safety-led. Something that did not look or feel unnecessarily medical. Head protection that could help support confidence, independence and dignity.

Those conversations changed how we saw brain protection needs.

We Discovered The Same Safety Limitations We’d Seen in Sport

When we looked more closely at medical and everyday head protection, we saw something very familiar.

In sport, one of the problems has always been that conventional headguards were never designed to protect the brain. They offer padding to protect the scalp from cuts and scrapes, but they do little to reduce rotational force transmission and reduce the cumulative damage from sub-concussions.

But brain protection is not the same as protecting against cuts and scrapes.

A product can cover the head. It can soften a bump. It can help reduce superficial injury. But that does not necessarily mean it has been designed to reduce the forces transmitted to the brain. We saw the same issue in healthcare, care and everyday settings.

Many products used for medical head protection are described with reassuring terms such as “impact reduction”, “medical helmet”, “soft helmet” or “protective headwear”. Those words can sound comforting, especially to families who are worried. But they do not always answer the most important question:

Is the product designed to help protect the brain?

That distinction really matters.

Many products sold as medical helmets lack independent testing and qualified rotational force reduction.

Just as we’d seen in sport, the majority of headgear sold for medical use focuses mainly on cushioning the surface of the head, while stronger protective options should be assessed through PPE certification, peer-reviewed biomechanical testing, and whether they address forces relevant to brain injury risk.

This is why we felt NeuroSure needed to exist. Because medical head protection deserves a more serious conversation and better product offering.

Why we had to look beyond the Marketing

As we explored the industry, we became increasingly uncomfortable with how loosely some protection language is used.

In sport, broad claims around “impact reduction” can sound reassuring without explaining what kind of impact force is being reduced, how it has been tested, or whether rotational force transmission has even been considered.

The same is true of the phrase “medical helmet”.

“Medical helmet” may describe the context in which a product is used, but it does not automatically prove that the product has been designed to reduce the forces associated with brain injury risk. “Medical head protection” is a descriptive phrase, not a formal legal classification. CE/UKCA Category II PPE safety certification, independent biomechanical testing, and qualified rotational force reduction are more meaningful indicators than marketing claims alone.

For us, the principle is simple:

If the concern is the brain, the protection should be designed around the brain.

That means looking beyond padding. Beyond reassuring words.

It means asking better questions.

  • What has the product actually been designed for?

  • Has it been independently tested?

  • Does it address rotational as well as linear forces?

  • Is it legally certified as PPE protective equipment?

  • Can it be worn consistently in real life?

Those questions matter for families, carers and clinicians choosing medical head protection for epilepsy, autism, hydrocephalus, macrocephaly, elderly care, falls and neurological conditions.

NeuroSure was created because we believe medical head protection deserves the same brain protection seriousness we brought to sport: attention to rotational forces, cumulative sub-concussion damage, appropriate PPE certification, independent qualification, comfort, dignity and everyday use.

Customers asked us. We listened.

NeuroSure has been shaped by real people who contacted us before we ever explored medical use.

Some came to us from sport with additional needs. Others came to us because they were caring for someone with a medical or neurological need.

Again and again, the message was the same: Protection only works if someone can actually wear it.

That is true for athletes. It is equally as important for children and adults with sensory sensitivities, neurological conditions, care needs or daily head impact risk.

Logan wore his Halos® for the first time the other day and didn’t fidget or have to adjust it once. He said how comfortable it was, and how much difference it made when he did get hit in the head.

Logan has autism so finds some things hard to wear – his scrum cap for example, as the strap rubbed and felt scratchy – so this is great.

This reflects how comfort and design can influence willingness to wear protection, particularly for autistic individuals with sensory sensitivities.

That message stayed with us. It showed exactly why NeuroSure needed to exist.

For autistic individuals, and for anyone with sensory sensitivities, comfort is not a small detail. Fit, feel, pressure, straps, heat and appearance can all affect whether head protection is accepted at all. Comfort, sensory tolerance, appearance, and daily wearability are central to whether protective headwear is used consistently.

Medical head protection cannot simply be protective in theory. It has to work in daily life.

NeuroSure is already being purchased across four continents

Before we have even introduced NeuroSure publicly through Rezon, customers are already purchasing through NeuroSure across four continents.

That confirms what our customers had been telling us: the need for practical, certified PPE medical head protection is global.

This is not limited to one country, one condition or one age group.

We are hearing from people supporting adults and children. We are hearing from people dealing with epilepsy, autism, macrocephaly, elderly care, neurological conditions, falls and everyday head impact risk.

The circumstances are different, but the brain protection need is often the same.

  • People want protection that is credible.

  • They want something that is practical enough to use.

  • They want something that does not unnecessarily medicalise daily life.

  • They want something designed around real life, not just the category it sits in.

 

That is the gap NeuroSure has been created to address.

We could have tried to stretch Rezon into every setting, but that would not have been right.

Rezon has a clear placement: Brain Protection in Sport.

The families, carers and clinicians contacting us needed a different language, a different environment and a different kind of support. They were asking about daily life. About school, home, care, sleep, bathing, work, social settings, recovery and independence. NeuroSure needed its own identity because medical and everyday head protection needs to be spoken about properly and responsibly.

So NeuroSure is not Rezon moving away from sport. It is a dedicated sister brand for medical and everyday head protection.

Rezon remains focused on players, parents, coaches, clubs, schools and sporting organisations. NeuroSure carries the same brain protection seriousness into healthcare, care, rehabilitation and everyday impact-risk settings.
